These are the terms you agree to when you use Bear & Birdie. We have tried to write them the way we would say them out loud.

The studio

Bear & Birdie makes portraits of pets from photographs you provide, using generative models. Each portrait is made to order and is a new picture — an interpretation, not a retouched copy of your photograph. Results vary, which is why the first try on each studio is free.

Your account

You need an account to make anything. Keep your sign-in to yourself; what happens on your account is your responsibility. You must be at least 16.

Your photographs

You keep every right you already had in the photographs you upload. By uploading, you give us permission to use them for one purpose: making the portraits you asked for, and storing them in your library so you can come back to them. Nothing more.

Upload only photographs you are entitled to use. Please do not upload pictures of people, anything unlawful, or anything you do not have the right to hand us.

Your portraits

The portraits the studio makes for you are yours to keep, print, and share, including commercially. We do not put them in public galleries or show them to other customers.

Treats

• One treat costs one dollar. Treats are studio credit, not money and not a currency — they buy pictures here and nowhere else.
• Treats do not expire and have no cash value. We do not convert them back into money.
• A failed generation returns its treats automatically. If the studio takes your treats and gives you nothing, that is our mistake, not your loss.
• Automatic top-up is optional. If you switch it on, we buy the same pack again with your saved card when your balance runs low, and you can switch it off at any time on your treats page.

Prints and books

Physical pieces are made to order. We will tell you what shipping costs before you pay. If something arrives damaged or wrong, tell us and we will remake it or refund it.

Refunds

Unused treats can be refunded within 14 days of purchase — write to us. Treats already spent on portraits are not refundable, because the work was done. Damaged or incorrect physical pieces are always put right.

What we ask

Do not try to break the studio, resell access to it, or use it to make anything unlawful. We may suspend an account that does. If we ever close your account without cause, you get your unused treats back.

The honest limits

We look after your pictures carefully — they are stored privately and backed up nightly — but no service is perfect, and Bear & Birdie is offered as it is. If something goes wrong on our side, what we owe you is limited to what you paid us. Keep your own copies of pictures that matter to you.

Changes

If these terms change we will change the date at the top, and tell you by email when the change matters.
